I recently came across this inspiring article about a young woman who is trying to increase the demand for fair trade certified products—specifically, fair trade chocolate. www.ocregister.com/articles/woodard-216844-trade-fair.htmlAlicia Woodard is just one person, trying to reduce the demand for human slaves (mostly children) who produce the chocolate we love to eat. Imagine what would happen if we all made the commitment to eat only fair trade chocolate. Yes, it would mean limiting our choices to satisfy those sweet-tooth cravings, and it might take a little time–but with increased demand, the market for chocolate that is produced without child slavery will definitely grow. P.S — I personally think Trader Joe’s Fair Trade Swiss Dark Chocolate is pretty good. Something that tastes good and does good at the same time. What a concept!
