The more I learn the more I realize that I have more to learn. There are so many new things being developed that it seems like an endless chase just to catch up. I am discovering I am not alone in this issue. Many consider themselves internet savvy, but get stuck on simple things. Or things that I consider simple and others consider complex. Since starting an online social site and having to learn to manuveur it's widgets and features, I am learning that others are not able to catch on as easily. For instance, I see that many people who do business, still may not have a website. I'm shocked by that because in this day and age, everything is computer driven. Even if you knit sweaters to sell to neighbors, if you want to make an impression in the business world, having a website puts your product out there! It gives it a voice to people all over the world. It helps you to create a brand. Many go online to shop (especially with gas prices like they are) and many go online to communicate. Forums, social sites and chat rooms are really great places to meet new people and get to know others. Without a website, you are missing an important, key demographic - your online consumer. Also, how often do you advertise online? If you haven't invested in a website, then most likely online advertising has been on your mind much. But that is a mistake. Whether we like it or not the Internet and the computer age is here. We need to focus on utilizing its great value. This is one reason why I offer many online events within JobDrama.com. By invitiing others to meet online in the chat rooms of our groups, it helps to bring this type of technology and community together. I see that this dadba forum has also added this feature. I applaud that. For those who don't feel internet savvy, don't worry about it, but keep working on it. If you stop now, you'll really get left behind! www.JobDrama.com

I agree Nova.... the wave of the future is ONLINE! One thing that I always try to stress when showing new members this board is that it is a learning process and that it can't HURT your business to try and be active here too!!!

I agree Nova.... the wave of the future is ONLINE! One thing that I always try to stress when showing new members this board is that it is a learning process and that it can't HURT your business to try and be active here too!!! Personally I don't agree with all of that. I won't mention names but I can tell you that there are people I'd never do business with just by how and what they post online. I won't do business with someone that can not form complete sentences or someone that spells 40% of what they type wrong. A mistake now and then is perfectly fine and will happen If your post sound like you are drunk every time you post I don't want to have anything to do with that business. Also the people that do nothing but post about themselves or their business and never offer help to others or the ones that only "help" others by trying to promote their products in every single post. Sure people should be promoting their business on the forums but we should also be trying to help each other. Put your business in your signature and we'll all know what you do. You don;t need to remind people in every single post about what you sell or offer. It's worse than spam sometimes.

I think the categories are on this website and should ALL be used. And if we are seeing a lot of one kind of posting, maybe it's because everyone is experiencing similar issues right now.
If someone is promoting a business, they should place the message in the Advertising section. If they are thanking someone for a job well done, place it in the Kudos section. If help is needed, it can be placed in the Water Cooler section, or where it fits, etc. And if they want or need to do it daily, they should be able to without severe reactions from us. We all pay to be part of DADBA.
I do not think people are using the system too much [of course Bob could be talking about me as I do post a lot], but I think the majority of DADBA members do not utilize the site enough. This is a great tool!! And aren't we all excited about our businesses and the services we provide??
In some ways Bob is correct; you do get to know someone through this system--however, if they are misspelling, or using poor grammar, they should be helped through a personal message or in-person contact, not criticized or complained about on the message board. That embarrasses people; it helps no one.
We are here to help each other. And just because we have differing opinions on what to do here on the DADBA board, does not mean we are correct and others are wrong. I think it just means we are different.
Blessings, Linda

That sums it up nicely. I really do not think there is a bad post. Each post helps your business, especially if you have a website. The more someone posts the more you get to know them along with recognition of their business. Maybe you will never buy from someone because of bad grammar, bad spelling or it might even be bad manners. A good rule to remember that I heard was 6 out of 10 people will not like you anyway. Mainly I believe that 60% are not worth your efforts anyway. Keep shooting for 40% of the a marketable area and you can do wonders for your business. As far as helping members, someone needs to ask for help and be willing to accept help. There are people and programs designed to assist and help. Many people may have different views on this, and different views are attributed to different goals. Some might be full time employees trying to make a little extra pocketmoney, or saving for a childs college education, retirement maybe even a fancy vacation while having a business adventure part time. Others might be in business full time to support themselves, a family or other ventures. In either case don`t be discouraged if you thinking about posting to much, or your grammar or spelling is not perfect. Mainly the ones that would critize fall in the 60% range. Just try to do your best everyday, and others will notice your trying to do your best, as they are trying to do their best. That is one thing you will have in common from the start, and trying goes along way in my book.

Well said Kevin. Those who try their best are the ones who get noticed and have a much higher chance for success. Yes you'll make mistakes while trying but that's how you learn. If we never make mistakes it's because we're not trying and if we're not trying and moving forward you'll never succeed.
As for being Internet Savvy it's easy to learn the ropes. Especially if you attend the last IBR of every month when Kevin and Laura show you step by step how to become active in DADBA on the message board. So if you're looking at this board but not posting because you're not sure how or what to do just come to the IBR. We're there to help you.
If you can't make it to an IBR call Laura or Myself and we'll schedule a time with you to teach you. Plus we promise not to tell anyone that you wanted training...
