If you want to cut back on automobile emissions….Stop giving every dumb, illiterate, ignorant moron a license! I’ve always been a huge fan of the licensing program of Germany were you actually have to pay a decent fee and pass a decent test to get your license. Maybe then people would take driving more seriously and maybe then you would not have so many idiots on the roads. Then, maybe you would have more people using public transportation and you might see full buses. I can not tell you how many times a day I drive past a bus int he Detroit area and see one person sitting in it. How wasteful is this?! Make driving test harder, make driving a privilege, have less drivers on the road and have less emissions. Heck, insurance would probably go down too! Win win all around! You know, now that I'm old, I can't believe they let 16 year olds drive! When I was 16, I loved it, now I wish the driving age were more like 21 or 22.

One of my closest friends Amy, her daughter just turned 16 and we both agreed that she is much to young to be driving!! But I too remember how cool it was to have that freedom.... I do agree with Bob though, that test should be a bit harder. And more relevant for that matter.... FALLING ROCK ZONE??? Seriously?

I think the solution is taking away the bus. If there is only one person on the bus, cancel the route. Cancel the busses all together. Early America there was no bus. People got around. If they couldn`t get around, they really didn`t need to get around. No city should have to offer public transportation at a discounted rate. If a city does have or decides on a public transportation system they need to make it profitable. Along with that, no goverment should mandate what can be driven by any citizen of this country. If I want to take a snowmobile to work or maybe a 4 wheeler. So be it. As for drivers age 16-24 and drivers over 80 they can have a horse or any device that is not motorized.

I think the bus is a good thing.
Many people do not have the money to purchase a car or car insurance. Older people can take the bus and not be a traffic hazzard.
Many people can be productive and not own a vehicle. Many people do not car pool. One bus, 50+ people=less road emissions.
I took the bus to work every day when I worked Downtown, and it was a Blessing to me. For pennies a day I could ride to work, not have to park in a parking structure [fear of heights].
Once I took the bus to Dallas TX. I was grieving over the death of my father, and had I driven, I might have been a casualty. The bus was very convenient. It serves a purpose, but if you don't need it, you may not see that purpose. I guarantee you though, others see it and use it.
I always try to think the cup is half full.
Blessings, Linda

I know a few people taking the bus into Detroit for work from Downriver because it is cheaper than gas and parking for a month.

I have traveled quite a lot to different countries and their mass transit systems puts our to shame.
I feel they should bring back the train service. It works in New York and Chicago

Underground subways would be sweet connecting a bunch of downriver communities. I would use them for sure.
It will never happen though. LOL
