Hello, I am the Firehouse. I have been here Downriver since 1929. I have some stories to tell.
First, never have I looked or felt so well. If you see me please admire my floors all four feet of concrete. You see I needed these floors to support the weight of the Firetrucks and equipment that used to be inside me.
Please admire my brickwork. Especially the archway. Many buildings do not have anything like me. Seems like they forgot how to do brickwork over the years.
My watch tower sure is a sight to see. From the top you can see all of Wyandotte and half of Downriver. They used to drag the hose lines up my watchtower for hanging so they would dry properly after a fire. I like to see the smiles on children's faces when they look out the watchtower and try to find their house. I see everyones house.
I have the American Flag waving on my flagpole. It is good to see it there again. It has been missed for a while. I now have Christmas decorations on me. Which is very important as I could never have them before.
I can`t even count how many lives were saved because of my existence or count how many good men and woman worked on me, lived here, visited, worked here and socialized here. I see some faces coming through my door now, that toured me when they were in grade school. We both have aged well.
I have smells coming from my kitchen now. Oh how I have missed it. People cooking here. Smells like cookies today.
I have been here for 78 years. I have seen many people come and go. I am very happy now with the DADBA. There seems to many more people coming by daily to look at me. They come and laugh, there is hardly any sadness or talk of death and destruction around here now. I am not used for protecting lives or livelyhood anymore..... then again maybe I am.
I will be checking in now and again. Till then you know where to find me. I am the Firehouse. I will be here for your childrens children, strong and ready to serve the community.
